A Nutritional Approach to Chinese Herbs and Healing (Berkeley)

This 8 week course explores many aspects of China’s 2,000 year history of herbal medicine, including the development of different schools of thought still practiced today, the art of synergistic herb combining, cooking with herbs, cultivation, endangered species & modern research and Chinese medicine nutrition. Included in the course are free herb samples and tastings, a field trip to Chinatown to tour herb and tea shops, and recipes to cook with herbs.

Instructor Bio: Michael Nian Peng Shi, L.Ac., PhD. is a California licensed acupuncturist born in Taiwan. He attended UC Berkeley and graduated with a Bachelors in chemical engineering. After doing research for one year, he enrolled in the master's degree program at American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM), where he graduated in 1990. Concurrent to his attending ACTCM, Dr. Shi also apprenticed with renowned Bay Area TCM practitioner Dr. Lam Kong. Since 1991, Dr. Shi has been in practice in both the East Bay and San Joaquin county. After 11 years of practice, Dr. Shi earned a Ph.D. in Oriental Medical Research from the American Liberty University in 2002. His dissertation was on treatment for hard to treat women's diseases.
