The College

The American College of Traditional Chinese medicine is comprised of two campuses. The main campus is located on beautiful Potrero Hill and overlooks the San Francisco city skyline, Bay Bridge, and San Francisco Bay. The facilities include 3 classrooms, student lounge, a kitchen and dining area, administrative offices, and a community clinic where students work as interns to treat the diverse populations of San Francisco. It is within 15 miles/24.1 kilometers of San Francisco International Airport and is in close proximity to Chinatown, the Palace of Fine Arts, Japantown, and the downtown metropolitan area. Our auxiliary campus, at Pioneer Square, is located about 4 blocks from the main campus and includes 4 classrooms, the student library with over 5,000 books, 60 kinds of journals, and computers with free internet access, a kitchen and dining area, and faculty offices.

The San Francisco Area

San Francisco is located along the Pacific Ocean and offers students exposure to one of the most multiethnic communities in the world. The city is home to the largest Chinatown outside of Asia, and foods and restaurants of almost every culture are in close proximity. The weather and climate are very mild and temperatures range from 4.5-27 degrees Celsius or 40-80 degrees Fahrenheit. The hottest month is generally in September and the coolest month is in December. Rainfall does not usually exceed 50 centimeters/20 inches annually and the wettest months are typically January and February. In regards to transportation, many students and residents of San Francisco utilize the expansive public transportation system that includes trains, busses, and Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART).

San Francisco offers students a living experience like no other. With rolling hills, picturesque city skylines, and world famous bridges and landmarks, it is truly a unique and diverse city with endless opportunities for personal and social growth. Financing Your Education

Before an I-20 can be issued, part of the admissions process requires international students to submit a certificate of finances form that demonstrates the financial resources required to pay for tuition. The certificate of finance form can come directly from the bank or other suitable financial institution of the student and/or from a family member who will be financially supporting or assisting his or her education. If a family member will be assisting financially, he or she will also need to submit a written statement to verify this. Upon acceptance into the college, international students are also required to pay the equivalent of a full year’s worth of tuition. If, for any reason, a student is unable to attend the college, $100 will be kept as an administrative fee and the remainder of the tuition will be refunded.

Optional Practical Training

Optional Practical Training (OPT) offers international students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience through employment in the field of traditional Chinese Medicine. Once approved by ACTCM and the Department of Homeland Security, students may work for a maximum of 12 months following the completion of their studies to enhance their knowledge of the medicine and gain greater hands-on experience.

Accreditation and Recognitions of Excellence

The American College of Traditional Chinese medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM). ACAOM is the recognized accrediting agency for the approval of programs preparing acupuncture and Oriental medicine practitioners. Our college celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2005/2006 and is proud to have received the award for “Best of the West” 2000 and 2002 for “Preserving Traditional Chinese Medicine in Faculty, Curriculum, and Clinical Training." We are also proud to announce the approval of our clinical doctorate program that will begin in the Fall of 2006.
